“La géocritique” – Bertrand Westphal

In his geocriticism (‘géocritique’) approach, Bertrand Westphal (2007) attempts to reconnect the mimetic arts such as literature, cinema and painting to the real world through the spaces they represent. To do so, Westphal proposes a set of conceptual tools relevant to understanding how human spaces structure themselves ‘by and in the text, by and in the image’, as well as through the cultural interactions that are created during the process.

Avec son approche géocritique, Bertrand Westphal vise à reconnecter au monde réel les arts mimétiques que sont la littérature, le cinéma et la peinture à travers les espaces qu’ils représentent. Westphal propose à cette fin un outillage conceptuel apte à saisir comment les espaces humains s’agencent « par et dans le texte, par et dans l’image» ainsi que les interactions culturelles qui se nouent à cette occasion.
