Crossroads in Maus – Spiegelman

Art Spiegelman, creator of the graphic narrative Maus, is the President of the 39th Angoulême International Comics Festival in Angoulême. It is the opportunity to celebrate on (e)space & fiction this exceptional designer by presenting this deeply moving frame issued from page 127 in the first volume of Maus. The road network that forms a swastika is the symbol of the impossibility to escape from Nazi Terror. Spiegelman gave later another interpretation of the scene of his parents fleeing from the Nazis in a lithography titled Crossroads. The comparison of the two versions is interesting

Art Spiegelman, créateur du récit dessiné Maus, est président du 39ème festival international de la bande dessinée d’Angoulême. C’est l’occasion pour (e)space & fiction de rendre hommage à ce narrateur graphique hors pair en présentant une case poignante tirée de la page 127 du premier volume de Maus. Les chemins en forme de croix gammée symbolisent l’impossibilité d’échapper à la Terreur nazie. Spiegelman reprend plus tard cette scène de ses parents fuyant les nazis dans une lithographie intitulée Crossroads (A la croisée des chemins). La comparaison des deux versions est intéressante.
