How to visualize a virtual network in a movie? It is the question the director David Fincher had to answer with his new film The Social Network, that tells the story of the young and famous Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg. There is no maps at all in Fincher’s film. Anyway, Facebook had not until recently incorporated geolocation functions. But the way Fincher organizes the different places of his fiction deserves analysis.

Comment traduire visuellement dans un film l’histoire de la création d’un réseau virtuel ? C’est en fait à cette question que devait répondre le réalisateur David Fincher dans The Social Network, film qui raconte l’histoire du jeune et fameux Mark Zuckerberg, fondateur de Facebook. Aucune carte dans le film de Fincher, d’ailleurs Facebook n’a intégré que très récemment une fonction de géolocalisation. Mais la manière dont il met en scène les différents espaces de sa fiction mérite bien une analyse.

The Hitch-Hiker is a film noir directed in 1953 by Ida Lupino. Two men in a car give a man a lift but the hitch-hiker turns out to be a  psychopath who kidnaps them. The police tracks the criminal.

Grey Wolf and Little Red Riding Hood/Le Loup gris et le Petit Chaperon rouge – Bardine

Garri Bardine is a Russian animation director. In 1990 he created Grey Wolf and Little Red Riding Hood (Russian: ” Серый волк энд Красная Шапочка, Krasnaya Chapotchka seriy Volk i”), a claymation film. The movie was  adapted from the famous children’s story Little Red Riding Hood as a musical.
Living in Moscow, the mother of Little Red Riding Hood sends her to bring a cake to Grandma Theresa who lives in Paris. The girl makes the journey on foot and has to be careful because of the wanted criminal Grey Wolf. The wolf meets many actors of famous tales such as The Three Little Pigs and the Seven Dwarfs.
Two original spatial machineries symbolize the journey of Little Red Riding Hood.

Garri Bardine est un réalisateur russe de film d’animation. En 1990, il réalise Le Loup gris et le Petit Chaperon rouge (en russe Серый волк энд Красная Шапочка, Seriy Volk i Krasnaïa Chapotchka), un film d’animation en pâte à modeler. Le film est une adaptation humoristique du célèbre conte Le petit chaperon rouge sous forme de comédie musicale. Vivant à Moscou, la mère du petit chaperon rouge envoie celle-ci apporter un gâteau à grand mère Theresa, qui vit à Paris. La fillette fait le chemin à pied, et doit faire attention au criminel recherché qu’est le loup gris. Celui ci rencontrera de son côté de nombreux protagonistes de contes célèbres tels que Les Trois Petits Cochons ou les sept nains. Deux dispositifs originaux sont utilisés pour symboliser le voyage du petit chaperon rouge.
